Dear Colleagues,

 

On behalf of the Sociedade Latino Americana de Órgãos Artificiais, Biomateriais e Engenharia de Tecidos – SLABO (Latin American Society of Artificial Organs, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering), we would like to invite you to submit papers to and participate in the 6^th Latin American Congress of Artificial Organs and Biomaterials (COLAOB 2010), to be held in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil from August 17 to 20, 2010.

 

The COLAOB has been held biannually since 1998 and is the main Latin American event in this area. The five preceding editions were highly successful, with selected works published in the journals Artificial Organs, Materials Research, Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, and Matéria, as well as in the Annals of COLAOB. In the coming edition, we will again have partnerships with Artificial Organs for the publication of works.

 

In the 2010 event, we expect the presentation of more recent developments in Biomaterials, Artificial Organs and Tissue Engineering by invited speakers, and through oral and poster presentations. In addition, as a characteristic of COLAOB, we are preparing several fraternization activities such as dinners, cocktails and get-togethers, for we believe good humor and a festive ambiencebring people closer together, helping them to form friendships and a network of interpersonal relationships, which is highly beneficial for the development of studies and researches and the exchange of experience and knowledge among its participants.

 

We are also focusing greater efforts in gaining the participation of professionals and students from the Mercosur countries, in view of their proximity to the venue of the COLAOB 2010 event. Specific efforts to publicize the event are being made in those countries, and air fares and accommodations will be payable in installments, which we hope will be helpful and with serve to further promote the attendance of these participants.

 

Another aspect that has been considered carefully is the participation of students. We are preparing accommodations at reduced prices, and also negotiating the payment of accommodations and airfares in installments. The aim is that the Young Scientist Forum, which is held for the discussion of young researchers and students in the area of the themes most relevant to them, be an event with an even larger number of participants.

 

COLAOB 1020 will be held in Gramado, a beautiful town in a mountainous region, which is noteworthy for its European architecture, its excellent infrastructure of hotels, tourist attractions and entertainments, and its excellent security, allowing for walks around the town even at night. Gramado is one of the most well developed tourist routes in Brazil, with a highly professional structure and suitable venues for holding dozens of Brazilian and international events, which we trust will provide good memories lasting long after the 6^th COLAOB is over.
