Welcome to Laprotox

Headed by Celia Carlini as the principal investigator, the Laprotox - Laboratory of Toxic Proteins, is part of the Department of Biophysics and of the Center of Biotechnology, at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. At Laprotox we are dedicated to studies of toxic proteins at the physicochemical and biological levels.

Research Lines

Ureases are multifunctional toxic proteins. At Laprotox we apply cellular, molecular and biophysical approaches to study the structural and biological properties of ureases from bacteria, fungi and plants. We aim to understand how ureases exert their many roles (enzyme, defense, virulence factor, communication) in the source organisms and in those affected by their actions.
