Pace
University was founded in 1906 as a
school of accountancy. Since that time,
Pace has grown to become an outstanding
independent, comprehensive doctoral
intensive multi-campus institution of
higher education with main campuses
in New York City and Westchester County,
New York. Nearly 14,000 students (9,000
undergraduate, 4,000 graduate) are enrolled
in Pace’s six schools and colleges:
Dyson College of Arts and Sciences,
Lubin School of Business, School of
Computer Science and Information Systems,
School of Education, School of Law,
and Lienhard School of Nursing.
One might say that the Pace student
body foreshadows U.S. society as it
will appear in the latter half of the
21st century: 53% minority, 12% international,
large numbers of first generation Americans
drawn to the New York area from across
the globe, and a rich kaleidoscope of
religions, cultures, and ethnicities.
The Pace motto is “Opportunitas”
and it is the foundation of our mission.
We offer our students “opportunities”
to grow, discover, and fulfill their
potential. A distinguishing feature
of Pace University is a “Civic
Engagement” requirement in which
students actively work in promoting
democracy by putting thought into action.
In addition, all students must complete
an interdisciplinary team-taught Learning
Community, several of which are distinctly
international in focus.
Beyond curriculum, we aspire to offer
our students co-curricular “opportunities”
and programs that will prepare them
for an increasingly diverse and interdependent
global society. Our largest campus is
located in lower Manhattan, just five
blocks from the site of the World Trade
Center tragedy. We are reminded almost
daily of the importance of pursuing
global peace and understanding through
education. Through speakers, cultural
programs, cooperative education, internship
placements, student organizations, faculty
research and scholarship, trips abroad,
study abroad, etc. – internationalization
is an important part of the agenda of
Pace University.
Our Model UN teams consistently develop
leadership and scholarship concerning
international affairs and are consistently
recognized with awards for Outstanding
achievement in Model UN Conferences
throughout the world. The Model UN teams
conducts conferences for high school
and college students in the United States
and internationally.
